Cops beef up Commercial Drive beat

Theft, drug dealing plague area

Commercial Drive residents will notice police walking a beat this Sunday and the addition of security guards to a community that is experiencing a nagging crime and drug dealing problem.

The Vancouver Police Department will deploy two teams of four officers each to patrol a stretch along the Drive's corridor from 3rd to 12th avenues. Officers will work in shifts from 7 a.m. to 3 a.m., according to Insp. Adam Palmer.
