For 18 years 'Ada's Place' has been a popular neighbourhood stop for kids and adults to drop in for a Popsicle or a carton of milk and, not least, for Ada Keung's friendship and compassion.
Kids who stole from the store were banished, but only temporarily.

Ada believes in second chances and most of the kids were allowed back in once they apologized.
Almost all did. Being excluded from Ada's Place was a bit like being expelled from a desirable clique at school.
"When we were growing up, Ada's was the corner store to go to. The most popular," says Cassidy Penner, 23, who grew up on Commercial at Third Avenue.
As the children grew up, Ada tracked their lives, applauding their successes, commiserating with them when they failed.
