But a sub-cluster of panhandlers, drunks, crackheads, pushers and street slime had also staked out a chunk of sidewalk in what was Vancouver's Little Italy, forcing a handful of bold citizens in the area to seek novel ways to clean up the spill from the greasy Downtown Eastside nearby.
