News: Rio Purchased By New Owners

East Vancouver's independent Rio Theatre has found a sugar daddy to help it keep producing its unique mix of live music, cult-film screenings, independent flicks, and first-run Hollywood fare in hardscrabble economic times.

The popular single-screen venue near Broadway and Commercial Drive has been sold to Festival Cinemas partners Leonard Schein and Tom Lightburn, who run the Ridge, Park, and Fifth Avenue theatres.

Theatre: "Yippies in Love" Take Over Cultch

Yippies In Love will be remounting at the Vancouver East Cultch's Culture Lab (1895 Venables Street & Victoria Drive) from Wednesday June 22, 2011 to Sunday July 3, 2011  

Tickets available at the box office starting May 23rd 2011.

Tickets for this production may only be bought through the Cultch box office.

The play had to be post-poned from its originally scheduled March opening date when the musical's lead, Steve Maddock had to fly east for urgent family matters.

Special Event: Swingin' for a Good Cause - MOSAIC

Come and have fun at a Swing Dance with live bands.
It will be a blast and you will be helping MOSAIC to better serve the community.

All the money from ticket sales will go towards improving the Community Room, a facility that is well used by all sorts of arts and cultural groups.
This room desperately needs an upgrade. Money raised will go to the purchase of new tables and chairs, and other amenities for the room.

The dance is on Saturday June 11th and features 3 live bands!!!
Tickets are $25.00 and include a dance lesson/demo, snacks and prizes.
