Special Event: Megaphone Fundraiser @ Cafe Deux Soleils

Tuesday, December 15, 2009 at 8:00pm

Cafe Deux Soleils
2096 Commercial Drive

Come join Megaphone for a Night of Joyful Voices. On Tuesday, December 15th, Megaphone is holding a fundraising concert at Cafe Deux Soleils from 8 p.m. to midnight.

The night will feature such great local acts as Fanshaw, Poema Flamenco and Vows (featuring members of Analog Bell Service) and will be hosted by comedian/activist/author extraordinaire Charles Demers.

The event is part of Megaphone's Joyful Voices Fundraising Drive. This Holiday season Megaphone needs to raise $5,000 so we can keep working to empower homeless and low-income people and make sure the rest of the city hears what they have to say. We need your donation. One way to help is by coming to our Night of Joyful Voices.

Tickets are $10 at the door. There will also be chances to win great prizes (ski passes, books and magazines and a spa gift certificate). All funds raised will go towards supporting Megaphone's homeless and low-income vendors.

Special Event: Benefit For People's Co-op Books

December 12

8pm

1391 Commercial Drive

This benefit will consist of a set each of music by the a cappella quartet Quatro led by Barbara Jackson, and Illiteratty, the hypnofolk band led by Earle Peach. There will also be special guests!

People's Co-op Books has been an icon in Vancouver's literary scene since its foundation in 1945. It's the oldest bookstore in BC, and a unique consumer co-operative owned and controlled by its members. Today it faces an urgent need to increase sales to keep its doors open. All the musicians in both groups believe that People's Co-op Books is an important part of our community and we want to do our small part to help it remain open.
