VANCOUVER -- A man has been shot and killed in a brazen killing early this morning.

Vancouver Police say a man was gunned down in the back of a cab around Second Ave. and Commercial Drive in East Vancouver around 1 a.m.

"While it is still early in the investigation, this is believed to be a targeted shooting and the victim is known to police," Const. Jana McGuinness said in a release.

Witnesses reported seeing an older model silver Mazda MPV mini van leaving the area at a high rate of speed following the shooting.

McGuinness said it was too early to say if the shooting was gang related.

No one else was injured.

Commercial Drive is closed to traffic in both directions between E. 1st Avenue and E. 3rd Avenue and is expected to remain closed for most of the morning.
