WHY?
Everyone has a right to basic needs of water, food and shelter/protection. Unfortunately, there are so many people on this planet who do not have access to these rights. Queen Victoria Annex Elementary has been raising money to fund water-well building in
Life’s Basics will help raise enough money to fund the completion and maintenance of this well in Tanzania. It will also help raise awareness for other issues such as everyone’s right to naturally grown foods free of GMOs and other harmful chemicals, as well as fairly-traded goods, shelter and protection and issues regarding sustainability.
WHO?
Anyone can be involved. Our goal is to unite businesses and members of the community from The Drive, Greater Vancouver as well as globally to come together and support this important cause. Not only will this be a successful fundraiser, but also an opportunity for businesses and people in the community to connect.
WHEN?
WHERE?
On
However, all the businesses on the drive are invited and can participate as much as they like through promotion of fair trade & sustainable products and a percentage of the sales that day on that product, donated to the water well project. Another suggestion would be a silent auction item donation that is taking place at the 4 main venues participating. A great idea for a business as well, is sponsoring a part of the event and utilizing the exposure as well as tax-deduction advantages.

Scruffmouth a.k.a. Kevan Cameron is a scribe, poet, and a performer. He was a member of the 2007 Vancouver Poetry Slam team and has been slamming, since 2004. In addition to slam poetry and spoken word, Scruffmouth is an avid writer, thinker, and dub poet. When he is not playing the beautiful game or involved in revolutionary activities, he may be working in the film industry or trying to find new ways to achieve creative freedom. Kevan Cameron graduated from Simon Fraser University in 2003 with a Bachelor’s Degree of General Studies. He turned down a lucrative offer to flip fries for a living in order to be a poet. It seems to be working out for him so far.Labels: Guerrilla Poetry, poets, scruffmouth, Vancouver Poetry Slam, wax poetic
Close to 300 people packed the WISE Hall this past Monday night to help choose a new Vancouver Poetry Slam Team. This fresh faced group of poetic wordslingers will now be traveling to Austin, Texas in August for the "National Poetry Slam" and to Halifax, Nova Scotia in October for the "Canadian Festival of Spoken Word" poetry slam championships.
The new team is Zaccheus Jackson, who finished 1st overall and is the new Vancouver Grand Slam Champion. Second was Scruffmouth, aka Kevan Cameron, 3rd is Vitamin F aka Fernando Raguero, 4th is Nora Smithhisler aka Nora Smithhisler and the alternate for this year's team is Sean McGarragle.
This group of poets will also be performing at various festivals in Vancouver and the U.S. Pacific Northwest over the summer months including Bumbershoot and the Summer Dreams Reading Festival. They will also be featuring at the Vancouver Poetry Slam at Café Deux Soleils on June 4th for their Van Slam Team debut.
If you see them on the street hug some them and talk about their hair. Or buy their merch. They are poets after all.
